The 2026 Racing Unleashed Esports Series returns on May 24 for another huge day of racing as the championships edge closer towards the summer break. With title fights intensifying, promotion battles heating up, and the final round of the RU3 Spring Championship ahead, there is still plenty left to play for.

THREE-WAY TITLE FIGHT INTENSIFIES
Round 3 of the 2026 RU1 Championship delivered the first major flashpoint in this year’s title battle at the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
Championship contenders Coque Lopez and Siro Zambra went wheel-to-wheel into Les Combes on the opening lap, with the Swiss driver coming off worse following two separate incidents between the pair.
While Lopez crossed the line first on the road, the final result remained undecided for several hours as Race Control reviewed the incidents post-race. Following deliberation, Lopez received two penalties, promoting Michal Smidl to his first victory of the 2026 season - and with it, the championship lead heading into Imola.
Despite the controversy at Spa, both Lopez and Zambra have remained respectful in the aftermath. However, with overtaking notoriously difficult around Imola, the opening lap could once again prove decisive in shaping not only the race result, but potentially the championship battle itself.
Meanwhile, Smidl has quietly emerged as a genuine title contender. The Czech driver has largely avoided the spotlight throughout the opening rounds, but his consistency now sees him leading the standings ahead of the final event before the summer break.
Speaking to Racing Unleashed ahead of Event 4, Smidl said: “I do enjoy the championship battle, but it is also good to see the competition in general because many drivers have the potential of winning the races.
“I think that Imola will be mainly about qualifying and grid positions, as it will be much harder to overtake here. Also, the strict track limits do no favours in dirty air, but I hope it will be a good race anyway.”

CAN ANYONE IN RU2 STOP RAMPANT GARCIA?
The 2026 RU2 Championship has so far belonged to one man: Nestor Garcia.
The Spaniard has enjoyed a near-perfect start to the season, securing a hat-trick of victories across the opening three rounds and establishing himself as the clear benchmark in RU2.
Garcia’s relentless consistency and race pace have allowed him to build a commanding 36-point advantage over Tim Potzmader heading into Imola.
His rivals will take some encouragement from the fact that Garcia was finally denied pole position last time out at Spa-Francorchamps. However, his superior race craft, consistency, and ability to deliver under pressure have made him untouchable so far this season.
Imola, however, presents a very different challenge - and potentially Garcia’s toughest test of the season so far.
Alongside Potzmader, Munich-based driver Norik Lehocki has emerged as one of the standout performers of the year and could prove to be Garcia’s closest challenger this weekend judging by the early practice pace.
The pressure is also beginning to intensify towards the back of the RU2 grid, with the two lowest-performing drivers from each Racing Unleashed lounge facing demotion to RU3 for the second half of the 2026 season.

TITLE GLORY AWAITS IN RU3 SPRING FINALE
The 2026 RU3 Spring Championship reaches its conclusion this weekend, with promotion to RU2 serving as the ultimate prize.
The RU Esports Series’ unique promotion and relegation system - known as Driver Ranking - sees the top two drivers from each Racing Unleashed lounge earn promotion to RU2 for the second half of the year.
RU3 drivers will tackle two races across two separate circuits during the finale, adding another layer of unpredictability to an already intense championship battle.
Heading into this weekend’s decisive round at the Hockenheimring, which hosts the opening race of the event, Madrid drivers David Sobreiro and Unai Maroto have already mathematically secured promotion to RU2.
However, the battle to become overall RU3 Spring Champion remains very much alive, with just 14 points separating the pair heading into the finale. Elsewhere, Lukas Egger currently leads the fight for promotion from Munich ahead of Samuel Bartl, while Julian Ammann looks well placed to secure a step up from Zurich City.
The closest and most unpredictable battle remains at Zurich Airport, where Aaron Schutz, Gian Frischknecht, and Sebastian Volans are separated by just 26 points heading into the final weekend of the championship.
